Welcome to the Foal Handling Series where we are going to follow Steele, an AQHA/APHA Stud Colt that was born at Meadow Brook Stables, Alton, Nova Scotia though his daily training sessions.

Day 307 (5:40)
Working on 180 Degree Turns. Adding distance.

Day 308 (6:24)
Working on Circles for Lunge Line with a chair in the environment as often times if not exposed they may spook to a judge sitting on the sidelines.

Day 309 (7:53)
Circling Review – trying to put things on cue – to have success. mark the gaits – when you feel like they are going to change gait on their own, mark it with a verbal cue so they can start to associate the upward and downward transitions with your cues.

Day 310 (10:21)
Circling Review – working at all three gaits, taking the energy they give you and being productive. Putting more effort and energy into the exercise.

Day 311 (7:53)
Circling Review – working on walking and jogging. Using the energy they give you and not trying to bottle it up – set them up for success.

Day 317 (5:18)
In Hand Review – Walking and Jogging In Hand. Stopping, Turning, Backing.

Day 318 (12:24)
Steele was having a lazy day – so we worked on our walk to jog and jog to walk transitions. We also worked on his changes of direction and not having him make assumptions.

Day 321 (12:58)
Introducing Long Lining To Steele. Checking to make sure he can follow a feel with the ropes and that he isn’t worried about the ropes, then working on guiding and steering from behind the tail.

Day 322 (9:08)
Long Lining, Advancing. Working on turns, circles, straight lines and stopping.

Day 323 (6:44)
Long Lining, working with some pylons and getting more particular about the guiding.

Day 328 (6:57)
Working with poles – having Steele guide nicely over and between poles, being mindful of his feet.

Day 329 (5:05)
Working with poles – having Steele more laterally over the poles traveling straight-lines and corners.
