Welcome to the Yearling Development Series where we are going to follow Steele, an AQHA/APHA Stud Colt that was born at Meadow Brook Stables, Alton, Nova Scotia though his training sessions.

Working Steele in a new environment – asking him to go at a walk, jog and lope.
1 Year 2 Weeks Old (10:02) – Circling with Bareback Pad – Part 2
Working with Steele in the outdoor with the Bareback Pad on for the second time.
1 Year 3 Weeks Old (16:16) – Introducing the Bit (without Bridle)
Introducing the Bit with a Savvy String to get him used to the feel of the Bit without a bunch of extra gear on his head.

Having Steele get used to the feeling of the bit in his mouth while going out an working on the circle. Also dealing with Environmental Pressure today and how to work through it.

1 Year 5 weeks Old (15:43) – Lunging Bareback Pad, Bridle and Reins
Introducing Steele to what it feels like to go out on a circle with the bareback pad, Bridle on and reins attached.
1 Year 6 Weeks Old (13:59) – Lunging with Bareback pad, Bridle and Reins
Reviewing to make sure that Steele is confident and comfortable with all the gear before changing anything else.
1 Year 7 Weeks Old (8:11) – Lunging with Bareback Pad, Bridle and Reins
Reviewing to make sure that Steele is confident and comfortable with a new set of reins ( split reins as compared to the joined reins.
1 Year 8 Weeks Old (10:44) – Bridle Driving – Part 1
Getting Steele used to guiding off the Bridle for steering on the ground.
1 Year 9 Weeks Old (15:49) – Lateral Flexion with Bridle
Working on the circle with the bridle on – making sure he is confident and relaxed. Then working on introducing some LF in the bridle
June 2021
1 Year 10 Weeks Old (6:49) – Bridle Driving with Obstacles
Introducing Obstacles with Bridle Driving.
1 Year 11 Weeks Old (6:22) – Long Lining with Bridle (Video Cuts Short)
Working on more guiding exercises with the bridle.
1 Year 12 Weeks Old (11:46) – Working on a larger Circle and Listening To Cues
Steele got to work on on a larger circle today and had a hard time focusing on the cues for his transitions at a great distance.
1 Year 13 Weeks (15:41) – Working on a Larger Circle with Bareback Pad and Bridle
Adding another change – so going from no tack to with tack on on the larger circle.
