Welcome to the Ground Work Series where we are going to follow Strawberry Shortcake (yes she has the cutest name ever), a 16 Year Old Miniature Mare that recently came into her new owners lives – she needs help with confidence building and getting her safe for their kids though her training sessions.

Strawberry’s Video Series starts the first day she arrived for Training.

August 1st – Fly Spray (11:40)
Working on having being more accepting of being fly sprayed on the left side (sprayed with a water bottle) and not react and try to get away from the spray all over her body, and legs.

August 1st – Fly Spray Cont (7:23)
Working on having being more accepting of being fly sprayed on the right side (sprayed with a water bottle) and then back to her left side and not react and try to get away from the spray all over her body, and legs.

August 1st – Handling (11:44)
Working on having Strawberry be more accepting of basic handling, she can be reactive to touching her head and ears especially as well as her legs. Showing her how to be confident about the handling and not nervous and trying to move away, stop her feet or toss her head.

August 2nd – Handling Cont (15:17)
Continuing to build on her confidence with being handling, focusing mainly on her head and ears and front legs.

August 2nd – Fly Spray Cont (14:33)
Continuing to build on her confidence with being fly sprayed on both sides, and by leaning over her. Getting everything from her throat latch to her feet sprayed.

August 5th – Desensitization (12:26)
Making sure that she is comfortable with being rubbed all over with the stick, and then introducing her to the bag on a stick and helping her gain confidence with being rubbed by it and having it flap all around her.

August 5th – Fly Spray Cont (3:58)
She is getting quite good with the Fly Spray now, and not having any real issues with it.

August 5th – Handling Cont (4:11)
She is getting quite food now with the Handling, and not having any real issue with it.

August 7th – Backing (Driving) (11:27)
Teaching her to back up out of my space using Driving or Rhythmic Pressure with my stick without pushing in or trying to ignore the pressure.

August 7th – HQ Yields (Driving) (9:15)
Teaching her to move her hip away to the left and the right using Driving or Rhythmic Pressure with my stick without pushing in or trying to ignore the pressure.

August 7th – HQ Yields Cont (Driving) (15:19)
Teaching her to move her hip away to the left and the right using Driving or Rhythmic Pressure with my stick without pushing in or trying to ignore the pressure.

August 12th – Saddle Pad (9:41 )
Putting the saddle pad on for the first time, seeing what her response is to it, looking for signs of anxiety or fear, and helping her through them. Waiting for her to accept the saddle pad before moving on.

August 12th – Saddling (8:46)
Putting the saddle on for the first time, seeing what her response is to it, looking for signs of anxiety or fear, and helping her through them. Waiting for her to accept the saddle before moving on.

August 12th – Cinching (13:52)
Putting the cinch on for the first time, seeing what her response is to it, looking for signs of anxiety or fear, and helping her through them. Waiting for her to accept the cinch before moving on.

August 16th – Circling Left (8:22)
Working on her responsibilities on the circle (Maintain Direction, Maintain Gait and Look Where She is Going).

August 16th – Circling Right (12:07)
Working on her responsibilities on the circle (Maintain Direction, Maintain Gait and Look Where She is Going).

August 20th – Lateral Flexion (7:30)
Getting Strawberry to give her head and neck to pressure without moving her feet confidently.

August 20th – Lowering Head and Guiding (15:47)
Asking Strawberry to follow a feel downward (pressure on the bottom of the halter), as well as some guiding work to help her with steering undersaddle.
