Meet Benny he is a 9 Year Old Gelding who has come to us to be Re-Started Under Saddle and work through some of his issues on the ground. He likes to rear and gets very rushed and nervous. So we are going to work on building his confidence and respect undersaddle and on the ground.

Video Descriptions

Week 2 (35:37) – Finding Focus and Relaxation in New Environment
First time working Benny in the outdoor arena and he is very distracted and disconnected. He struggles with basic tasks due to his lack of focus – tasks which I know he can perform with relative ease in an environment he is used to.

Week 3 (8:21) – Follow A Feel & Stay Connected
Benny is very good at disconnecting from people and connecting more to his environment, he also has a hard time giving to pressure on his head/mouth. So I work with Benny to get more of a connection from him while at the same time he is learning to follow a feel softly and not react to pressure.

Week 4 (14:36) – Bridle Driving
Getting Benny to give and stay soft (mentally, emotionally and physically) when picking up pressure on the reins. Lateral Flexion, Vertical Flexion and working on Driving in Hand and getting him to walk around with me beside him and asking him to steer nicely without getting tight or nervous about the rein pressure.

Week 5 (13:33) – Lateral Flexion While Mounted
Working on getting the relaxation both on the ground and under saddle with lateral flexion. Looking for Benny’s response to pressure rather than react to it.

Week 6 (16:19) – Finding Relaxation while Ridden
Starting to ask Benny to go out and move around more and find relaxation while being ridden.

Week 7 (14:56) – Finding Focus in new Location with New Distractions Part 1
Exposing Benny to a new environment and having other horses in the ring at the same time. Working on having him be responsive to pressure and not reactive, and listening to cues. He struggles with doing what I am asking and has more go than whoa.

Week 7 (21:47) – Finding Focus in new Location with New Distractions Part 2
Exposing Benny to a new environment and having other horses in the ring at the same time. Working on having him be responsive to pressure and not reactive, and listening to cues. He struggles with doing what I am asking and has more go than whoa.

Week 8 (21:44) – Relaxation at a Jog and at a Whoa
Working on having Benny find Relaxation both in motion and stationary. Also looking for Benny to give to the pressure of the reins softly and consistently. Not bracing and being tight.
